Mumu One

Mumu One Mumu One is one of Guiyang’s newest restaurants, only a week old currently. They have good coffee, snacks, a handful of cocktails, AND ALL-DAY BRUNCH. All day, everyday. Best of all, it’s actually good. Not only did they have dishes are extremely rare in Guiyang (hello, Eggs Benedict), the serving sizes were ample and everything tasted great. The only complaint anybody could think of was that they were a bit slow, but the … Continue reading

Soil Café

Soil Café Guiyang has a lot of cafés. A lot. Really, an unbelievable number of cafés. They’re in shopping malls, along main thoroughfares, tucked into apartment complexes, on rooftops and just anywhere you can imagine. Every café is different. Some, like Starbucks and Createa, are utilitarian caffeine-fueling stations with reliable coffee and long lines. Others, like Rooftop, are gathering places for expats who want to catch some sun, play board games and chill. Soil Café … Continue reading

MIA Flower Café

MIA Flower Café On my continuous hunt for places with patios, I stumbled upon MIA Flower & Tea. The photos I found online intrigued me, and I set out to see what they had to offer. It was a bit difficult to find at first, but completely worth it. Their eclectic decor (think grandma’s shabby chic garden) and private courtyard are a true delight. Every nook in the two-story café has been festooned with knick-knacks, … Continue reading

Kempi Coffee

Kempi Coffee Guiyang panini

One of the first things foreigners realize upon arriving in Guiyang is that the city has a pretty weak sandwich scene. Bread in the city is generally sweet and not particularly good to make a sandwich with, and meat for sandwiches can also be pretty pricey at the supermarkets.  Enter Kempi Coffee, a great café below the Kempinski Hotel. The interior is non-smoking, a real rarity in Guiyang, and they have a great patio with … Continue reading

Sculpting in Time Café

Guiyang Guizhou Sculpting in Time Cafe inside

Sculpting in Time is another of Guiyang’s great little cafés, and it’s easy to find inside Hunter Mall downtown. With a nice menu of drinks and light foods, it’s a good café to sit at whether you’re meeting friends or planning your grocery list before heading downstairs to Carrefour. The café isn’t quite as smoky as some of Guiyang’s other cafés, due to its wide open storefront and a back door that’s left open on all … Continue reading

Rooftop Café

Guiyang Guizhou Rooftop Cafe roof

Rooftop Café is one of the Guiyang staple hangouts that you might never find if nobody tells you about it. The coffee is a bit pricy, but the ambiance is totally worth it, especially if you’ve lucky enough to have the day off on one of Guiyang’s rare sunny days.  The highlight of this two-story café on the roof of an apartment building is — without a doubt — the rooftop patio. It’s an unexpected … Continue reading
